Sunset begins Ridván (paradise)…

Treasured Readers,

Thank you for following me. I enjoy every follow, like, and comment notification I received. I would like to ask of you to keep an open heart and open mind as you read about the importance of tonight.

Tonight is a very important beginning as a Bahá’i, sunset of April 20th begins the First Day of Ridván (Paradise).

Riḍván (Arabic: رضوان‎ Riḍwán; Persian transliteration: Riḍván, Persian pronunciation: [ɾezvɒːn]) is a twelve-day festival in the Bahá’í Faith, commemorating the commencement of [the Founder,] Bahá’u’lláh’s [(Glory of God)] prophethood. It begins at sunset on April 20 and continues until sunset, May 2. On the first (April 21), ninth (April 29) and twelfth days of Ridván (May 2), work and school should be suspended.

‘Ridván’ means paradise, and is named for the Garden of Ridván outside Baghdad, [Iraq,] where Bahá’u’lláh stayed for twelve days after the Ottoman Empire exiled him from [Baghdad] and before commencing his journey to Constantinople [in 1863].

It is the most holy Bahá’í festival, and is also referred to as the ‘Most Great Festival’ and the ‘King of Festivals.'” (Source Website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridván)

I wish to leave you with the following:

“O daughter of the Kingdom! Thy letter hath come and…thou hast directed all thy thoughts toward acquiring light from the realms of mystery. So long as the thoughts of an individual are scattered he will achieve no results, but if his thinking be concentrated on a single point wonderful will be the fruits thereof.

One cannot obtain the full force of the sunlight when it is cast on a flat mirror, but once the sun shineth upon a concave mirror, or on a lens that is convex, all its heat will be concentrated on a single point, and that one point will burn the hottest. Thus is it necessary to focus one’s thinking on a single point so that it will become an effective force…”

( ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, pp.110-12)

‘Abdu’l-Bahá, “73: O daughter of the Kingdom! Thy letter…,” Selections From the Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Trans. and Ed. Bahá’í World Centre, 1982, 110-12. Web. 19 April 2014.

I have found the above quote to be very inspirational. It is true that focusing yourself on one goal with all your thinking and energies is the most effective way for something to be completed and usually done right the first time.

Loyal Readers, thank you for taking the time to read this. I, myself, am still learning and hope that my sharing will help you. Please feel free to ask any questions, leave any comments, or state any concerns in the comments that you may have. Have a great day!

Cordially Yours,
Laili
