DIY Frankenstein’s Monster Headpiece (Costume)

My four year-old bugged me for nearly 30 minutes–which amazed me and why I finally agreed to make this for him. I just figured it out as I went with pictures of the Ben 10 version to view. I thought I’d share in case others needed it. I haven’t figured out to do neck bolts without glue. I was thinking a choker but my four year-old would not keep it on if I used felt–need thick cotton fabric.

Items
12″ x 12″ Green card stock
Black Felt (I used three 4″ x 6″ pieces)
Needle, sewing (by hand)
Black floss (thread)
Green floss (thread)
Green pipe cleanser
Glue, Permanent craft (or Hot, Medium)
Paper clips, jumbo (or clothes pins)
Scissors
**Need head circumference for individual

1.) Using the green card stock, fold in half length (or width) to get two 6″ x 12″ pieces and cut out
2.) Glue with 1/2″ overlap and let dry.
3.) Sew pieces of black felt together, as needed, with black floss (thread)–all with a 1/2 – 3/4″ overlap–but do NOT sew as one piece!
4.) back to green card stock, determine head circumference–recommend to mark–then glue with overlap. Allow to dry. I used clothes pins to hold together and dry.
5.) once dry, fold the black felt in half horizontally ( need it very long, approximately 14-18″).
6.) On one side of black felt, put glue along entire length then rolls on top part of green card stock. Use clothes pins/ jumbo paper clips to hold on place and let dry.
7.) Once the black felt is glued on, sturdily, lay the green pipe cleaner on the front of the headpiece. Using the green floss (thread) and needle, sew, tightly, on the verticals “scars,” which holds the pipe cleaner in place.
8.) using scissors, cut a curved piece out of the top layer of the folded black felt. Next, cut small slits along the entire circumference of the bottom area of the top layer of the folded black felt. Last, go back around and remove a few smaller piece.
